The Gary B. Multanen/CM Magazine Scholarship
CM Magazine proudly presents the Gary B. Multanen/CM Magazine Scholarship for students in composite-related studies. The winner will receive $1,000 towards school, have their research published in CM, and receive an all expense paid trip to COMPOSITES & POLYCON 2009.
Qualifications:
- To be eligible, a student must be registered full-time at an accredited college or university, and must be in good academic standing. Undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students are encouraged to apply.
- Applicants must be pursuing a degree in engineering, research, or other composites-based curriculum. Art students working with composite materials in restoration or sculpture also are encouraged to apply.
- All research submissions must be composite-related, part of a specific class or curriculum, and imply practical/commercial or aesthetic applications. The focus here is on the pragmatic, not the theoretical.
- All applicants must reside in the United States of America.
Application Procedure:

- The deadline for submissions is Thursday, August 7, 2008.
- Candidates must also submit the following with their applications:
- Composites-related research in the form of a report or paper (no less than 1,500 words), which focuses on some unique, creative, and significant aspect of research that the student is authoring, co-authoring or heavily participating in. The report must not be overly commercial in promoting a particular product or proprietary process, but should defer, as much as possible when these references occur, to generic terms. The submission also must imply practical aesthetic applications.
- A reference from the professor related to or overseeing research.
- A college transcript (photocopies are acceptable).

Scholarship Background
Gary B. Multanen is a founding father and charter board member of the American Composites Manufacturers Association. He is also a long-time friend of Composites Manufacturing magazine. Thanks to his vested interest in the magazine, CM has become a recognized source of information and education for the composites industry worldwide. CM Magazine recognizes the importance of continued industry education and has developed the Gary B. Multanen/CM Magazine Applied Research Student Scholarship, to encourage students devoted to starting careers in the composites industry. One candidate will receive a $1000 award, his or her winning research published in CM Magazine and one all-expense paid trip to the annual COMPOSITES & POLYCON trade show to present their research.
